BSc(Bioinformatics)
The BSc(Bioinformatics) curriculum is designed with a high level of flexibility to cater for the wide spectrum of personal interest and diversity in career aspiration of a modern bioinformatics practitioner. The programme is centered around a series of unique anchoring courses that are specifically designed for BSc(Bioinformatics) students throughout the four-year curriculum. These courses take a problem-based learning approach to develop students’ ability to effectively make use of data science skills to solve a variety of biomedical problems. The curriculum also features two unique Data Science Laboratory courses that allows students to gain hands-on experience in handling genomic and digital health data. A 12-credit final year project will enable students to work on a cutting edge research project under the one-to-one mentorship of our internationally leading academic staff in our programme.
Students will also have to take core and elective courses in Biomedical Sciences, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Statistics. The programme provides a wide variety of disciplinary elective courses, and general elective courses offered across different Faculties of the University.
The flexibility of the credit-based curriculum enables students to undertake overseas or mainland exchange during the 4-year programme.
Students are required to complete a total of 96 credits of courses for the Bioinformatics major, of which the 3 anchoring courses, 6 foundation courses, 1 or 2 data science laboratory course(s) and the final year project course are prescribed.
