Summary:
Bioinformatics and Genomics are now mature research fields that attract researchers from many areas including physicists and engineers. We have battle-hardened file formats and best practices pipelines. At the same time underlying technologies evolve rapidly and the ever growing scale at which they can be applied challenge the traditional ways in which analysis was performed. In this presentation, Dr. Wilm will share perspectives and experiences gathered during his time at the Genome Institute of Singapore and Microsoft. He will touch upon software development in Bioinformatics, open source software, reproducible research and how to run genomics analyses at scale, drawing on his experiences with the National Precision Medicine Programme Singapore.
