Plenary Talk by Dr. Abdenour Soufi, School of Biological Sciences, UoE (open for all)

Talk title: Mechanistic Insights into Controlling Cell Identity by Transcription Factors

Abdenour did his PhD studying the early development transcription factor Hex/PRH under the supervision of Profs Kevin Gaston and Sheela Jayaraman at the University of Bristol (UK). He then moved to Prof Kenneth Zareth lab at the University of Pennsylvania (USA) where he performed seminal work on the Yamanaka transcription factors during cellular reprogramming to pluripotency (iPS cells). He then established his lab at the Institute for Regeneration and Repair at the University of Edinburgh where he is now a senior lecturer and an MRC research fellow. His research is focussed on revealing how transcription factors interact with chromatin and define cellular identity.
