Since 2021, our School has partnered with Croucher Foundation to host our annual HKU Biomedical Sciences Summer Academy. This is our second year running the program, with a pause in 2022 due to COVID-19, and it was successfully held from August 7 to 11, 2023. Thirty-five students and their teachers spanning seven local secondary schools spent a week with us at the HKUMed campus, learning about various aspects of biomedical sciences and how it relates to our everyday life. Activities included hands-on laboratory sessions on planarians, protein crystallography, fluorescent proteins and genotyping, as well as talks on CRISPR editing, human anatomy with VR, biomedical entrepreneurship, big data and bioinformatics, lab visits and anatomy dissecting lab tour, as well as biomedical sciences related career roundtable discussions. We are most delighted to have received positive and encouraging feedback from the participants. The event would not have been possible without the support from all School members and the Croucher Foundation. We sincerely hope that the instructors, support staff and helpers also found the event as enjoyable as the students did.
