Biography

speaker
Zhaohui Qian, Ph.D., is a senior principle investigator at Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences/Peking Union Medical College and currently serves as a member of National Pathogenic Microbiology Laboratory Biosafety Expert Committee of China. He received the bachelor and master degree from Peking University and the doctoral degree in Virology from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, and completed his two postdoctoral research trainings at the VAMC, Memphis under Dr. Ed Rosloneic and at the University of Colorado School of Medicine mentored by Dr. Kathrine V Holmes. At the beginning of 2014, he returned to China and established his own laboratory at Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences/Peking Union Medical College, dedicated to advancing virology research with a specific focus on studying the entry mechanisms of coronaviruses, a topic of increasing relevance in the face of recent global challenges. His lab has made impactful contribution on findings of entry of HKU1, the fusion peptide of CoVs, and endocytic entry of SARS-CoV-2.
