Biography

Angela Lai is the founder and CEO of Betteromics Inc, an AI platform that develops methods, algorithms, and user components allowing biomedical scientists to collaborate in analyzing large-scale, multimodal, multi-omics datasets. She was previously the Chief Technology Officer at GRAIL, where she led the development of their computational platform and algorithm that became Galleri, a multi-cancer early detection diagnostic. She was also a Vice President at Google, where she spent more than a decade building AI infrastructure like the Knowledge Graph that powers all of Google’s semantic search products. Angela is a Hong Kong native and studied at the University of Pennsylvania. She is passionate about taking her deep technology expertise to mission-driven initiatives in biology and medicine.

Abstract
Large Language Models and Generative AI is making headlines in its potential to change the way information is created and consumed and how work is done in every industry. But can these new technologies stand up to the requirements of scientific rigor in clinical research and development? In this talk, Angela Lai will explain how Betteromics developed an LLM methodology to enable Clinical Data Abstraction, traditionally a laborious process, to be much faster, more flexible and trustworthy.
