Summary:
In the prostate, androgen receptor (AR) is a master regulator essential for development and tumourigenesis, but its specific functions in prostate stem/progenitor cells have not been elucidated. In this presentation, I will first talk about the investigation of AR function in CARNs (CAstration-Resistant Nkx3.1-expressing cells), a luminal stem/progenitor that functions in prostate regeneration and can serve as a cell of origin for prostate cancer. Secondly, I will describe the establishment of a novel three-dimensional culture system that allows the maintenance and propagation of luminal progenitors and cancer cells as organoids, and preserves intact androgen response and AR signalling.
