Title: Harness the power of light: optogenetic control of intracellular activities
Liting Duan received a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Renmin University of China (People’s University of China) and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Stanford University. Her thesis focused on the development of optogenetic strategies to control intracellular activities. During postdoctoral research, she further studied and engineered the photosensory proteins interactions for optimized optogenetic toolkits with Prof. Bianxiao Cui in Chemistry and Prof. Michael Lin in Bioengineering and Neurobiology at Stanford. In July 2018, she joined the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Chinese University of Hong Kong as an Assistant Professor. Now her group is focused on developing novel optical methods to control different cellular activities.
Optogenetics is an emerging biotechnique that utilizes light to control cells with reversibility and unprecedented spatiotemporal precision. Optical approaches based on light-inducible protein-protein interactions have gained tremendous success in regulating various intracellular activities. In this talk, I will introduce our recent work on developing optical strategies to control intracellular organelle activities and different signal pathways.
