He founded PharmCare Technology Limited in 2020 and is its CTO, and he leads Drug Icon CC, a Creative Commons medication-pictogram project. He co-founded HKGoodPost. He is a Director of the Social Enterprise Forum and a Committee Member of the Social Enterprise Summit 2026. He is a Visiting Lecturer at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and a trainer at HKU SPACE, HKSTP, and HKU DeepTech. He holds a BEng in Computer Science and an MBA from HKUST.
Abstract
Biomedical founders learn to value a technology, protect it, and raise capital for it. This seminar asks who changes, who pays, and what fails when those questions are skipped. Albert Au will use a purpose-driven social business model canvas: social purpose has to become social impact, and profit purpose has to name the financing gap. Hong Kong cases students can visit include GreenPrice, Diamond Cab, and Dignity Kitchen, plus histotripsy, the non-invasive ultrasound treatment co-invented by Zhen Xu and already in this city’s hospitals. It is not a social enterprise. Students will practise Social Return on Investment and map grants, venture philanthropy, and impact investment onto the financing gap.
