World-Renowned Computational Neuroscientist Professor Xiao-Jing Wang Joins SBMS as Chair Professor

We are delighted to welcome Professor Xiao-Jing Wang to the School of Biomedical Sciences—with a joint appointment at the School of Computing and Data Science—as Chair Professor. A world leader in computational neuroscience, Professor Wang joins HKU from New York University (NYU), where he served as Distinguished Global Professor of Neural Science and Director of the Swartz Center for Theoretical Neuroscience.

 

Professor Wang is globally renowned for pioneering neural circuit models of the prefrontal cortex, shedding light on the biological mechanisms behind working memory, decision-making, and executive control. His groundbreaking work has also helped establish the foundational framework for the burgeoning field of computational psychiatry.

 

His appointment marks a major milestone for the School, further enhancing SBMS’s world-class research capabilities in neuroscience, cognitive science, and AI-driven biomedical innovation.
